Penang CM pays tribute to labour force, the 'backbone of the state'

GEORGE TOWN: Penang recorded a two per cent Unemployment Rate (UR), according to the Statistics of Labour Force, Malaysia, Fourth Quarter 2023, survey report.

The same survey also showed that Penang recorded 73.3 per cent Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

"This proves that the people of Penang are a hardworking lot and optimistic in improving their lives.

"On this Labour Day, I want to take this opportunity to thank the labour force who has contributed immensely in the development of the state," he said in his Labour Day message.

Chow said the state government would continue to create more employment opportunities for the young, with efforts to turn the state into an international trade destination, especially in the electronics and semiconductor sectors.

He also paid tribute to the state's labour force, stressing that with their hard work, the state was able to record the highest inflow of investments in the country totalling RM71.9 billion last year.

"Simultaneously, with cooperation from the federal government and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), the state is able to facilitate investments totalling RM13.67 billion and employment opportunities amounting to 14,000.

"With Penang's stronger record in terms of investment policies and facilities, the state government is confident that Penang will continue to have the potential to become a destination of choice for quality and high-value investors," he added.

Meanwhile, Chow also reminded himself and all other quarters to apply the Madani values ​​in living life as a worker and an individual.

"Be a person who contributes to the wellbeing at work. Display your creativity in the development sector. Be a person who always respects fellow colleagues regardless of background, position or position," he said, adding that he and his leadership would continue to work harder in an effort to ensure the wellbeing of the people in this state is always preserved and defended.
