PPTD welcomes pay hike for civil servants

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service Association (PPTD) has welcomed the announcement of a salary increase for civil servants beginning Dec 1.

Its president, Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, thanked Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the prime minister's concern for government servants and pensioners, and for alleviating their financial burden.

"The Public Service Remuneration System Study (which led to the increase in wages) was certainly greeted positively by all public servants and proved the commitment of the government to ensurin the well-being of the civil service.

"The members of PPTD will continue to give their highest commitment to continuously increasing the quality of service and productivity."

Earlier today, Anwar had announced an increase of more than 13 per cent in remuneration for civil servants, among the highest ever.

Previously, the highest increase was a rate of 13 per cent.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, also announced that the overall minimum pay for civil servants must reach more than RM2,000.

He had said that, currently, the overall minimum pay which includes salaries and fixed allowance, was RM1,795 per month, which he said was unreasonable.
