No May 23 extra holiday for Pahang folks, Hari Hol and Wesak observed on May 22

KUANTAN: The Pahang government today announced that there will be no additional holiday observed on May 23 in conjunction with the Hari Hol and Wesak Day which falls on May 22 (Wednesday).

State secretary Datuk Seri Zulkifli Yaacob said in accordance with Subsection 9 (1) of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369), the state authorities will only observe May 22 as a public holiday.

"Only May 22, 2024 will be observed as a holiday to mark Hari Hol and Wesak Day. There will be no additional holiday granted for Pahang on May 23 to replace Hari Hol and Wesak Day which falls on May 22," read the statement.

Wesak Day observed by Buddhists falls on May 22 this year while Hari Hol is held to commemorate the death of Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah on May 22, 2019.

The announcement puts an end to speculations that the Pahang government might declare May 23, 2024 as an additional public holiday this year.
