Anwar confident all MPs will support civil servants' salary hike

KOTA BARU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tonight said he was confident that all members of parliament will support the salary hike for civil servants that he announced.

The Prime Minister said the government has estimated that it would cost about RM10 billion.

"I have heard many MPs said that the salary hike is an empty promise and they are not confident it will be approved in Parliament.

"I think it will not be a problem for Parliament to approve the additional salary hike that will begin from Dec 1.

"Which MPs who want to go against the government's efforts? Sarawak and Kelantan already expressed their support to this," he added.

Anwar today assured that the salary hike for civil servants will be approved in Parliament during the tabling of the 2025 Budget slated for this October.

He said the full details of the announcement, made yesterday during the national level Labour Day celebrations, would be revealed in due process.

He added the matter has been agreed in principle.

"Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as deputy prime minister and Umno president has given his support.

"Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor have given their support. This is enough majority.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), Parliament will approve this so it can be implemented on Dec 1, this year," he said.
