Kelab Sahabat Najib 87 seeks full pardon to be given to former PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelab Sahabat Najib 87 is seeking a full pardon to be given to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

In a five-point resolution the club adopted today, it also asked for consent from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, to allow the former Pekan member of Parliament to undergo house arrest.

The resolution was handed over to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"The club members seek consent from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia to grant full pardon to (Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak).

"In addition to that, we also appeal to all parties involved for Najib to to be relocated from prison to house arrest, in compliance with the alleged addendum order, granted by the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong," said the club's deputy president Datuk Kamarudin Abdullah, when reading the resolution during the meeting.

On Jan 29, the Federal Territories Pardons Board, which the then King presided over, halved Najib's 12-year jail sentence for abuse of power and criminal breach of trust in the SRC International case, and reduced his RM210 million fine to RM50 million.

Najib, in his judicial review application to the High Court on April 1, claimed the then King issued an addendum order — also on Jan 29 — allowing him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.

He named the Home Minister, Prison Department commissioner general, Attorney-General (AG), Federal Territories Pardons Board, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Legal Affairs Division director-general, and the government as respondents.

On April 17, Zahid had confirmed the existence of an addendum order from the former King allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Zahid claimed the impugned document was shown to him by former Selangor Umno treasurer Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz at his house near Country Heights on Jan 30.

Zahid had said this in his supporting affidavit dated April 9 in Najib's judicial review application to compel the government to produce the impugned document.
