Efforts underway to clear fallen tree on Jalan Sultan Ismail

KUALA LUMPUR: Efforts are underway to clear the fallen tree that tragically caused the death of an individual and injured another on Jalan Sultan Ismail.

The tree-cutting operation has been broadcast live on a TikTok channel since 4pm today, providing real-time updates on the process.

A witness also recounted the terrifying details of how the victims became trapped in their vehicles.

Eyewitness Muhammad Tariq Haikal, 27, shared his firsthand experience, "The wind was incredibly strong, and I heard the sound of a tree crashing. When I looked over, I saw a large tree had fallen onto a car in traffic, with some parts landing onto the MRT track," he recalled.

Tariq also described seeing the tree pierce through the vehicle.

"It took approximately 20 to 30 minutes for the fire department and City Hall to reach the scene after the distress call," he added.

"Witnessing the victim's plight and their subsequent passing within minutes has left me deeply shaken," he revealed during an interview with reporters.

Earlier, it was reported that an uprooted tree smashed into the KL Monorail track on Jalan Sultan Ismail and damaged several cars causing major traffic congestion.

A 47-year-old male was killed after the tree fell on his car, confirmed by paramedics at the scene.
