'Suspect in acid-splashing case turned around to pick up bottle'

KUALA LUMPUR: The suspect involved in the acid splashing incident, which left Selangor FC player Faisal Halim severely injured, returned to the scene to pick up the bottle said to contain the dangerous substance.

A source told Harian Metro that in the 4.40pm incident on Sunday, Faisal together with his wife and child were heading toward their BMW parked at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara.

"That was when two men on motorcycle approached Faisal and one of them splashed the acid at him.

"After doing so, the suspect fled but then turned around to pick up the bottle (of acid) that fell.

"The splashing incident left the football player to suffer severe burns on his body.

"Even his wife, who was nearby, was hit with splashes (of acid) based on the holes on her clothes," said the source.

The source said after the suspect fled, a witness contacted the police.

It was reported that police have arrested two people to facilitate investigations - one in Pandan Indah on Sunday and another in Bandar Baru Bangi yesterday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had said the first suspect may not have been involved in the case as the motorcycle used in the attack carried a fake registration number.

The second suspect, detained in Baru Baru Bangi, has been remanded for five days beginning yesterday to assist the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
