Govt did not issue directive to investigate Forest City casino claim report, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: The government did not issue a directive to initiate an investigation against Bloomberg on its Forest City casino claim, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

"Berjaya (Corp), through a legal firm representing the company, lodged a police report on the issue, so it is not a report lodged by the government, be it this ministry or MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission)," he said at a Press conference at the ministry today.

Fahmi, who is the unity government spokesman, said the investigation was carried out following the report lodged as with the normal process.

The police have recorded the statement of the portal journalist Ram Anand to assist in the investigation into the publication of an article on the casino development in Forest City, Johor.

The investigation was initiated after the article was claimed to contain false, baseless, and unverified statements. The investigation is under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 500 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
