TMJ gives Johor assemblymen 19 months to end hardcore poverty

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail wants all Johor hardcore poor households to be fully lifted out of poverty by 2025.

His Majesty said therefore, all Johor state assemblymen have been given 19 months to identify these groups in their respective constituencies.

He said the coming 19 months were important for all state assemblymen to provide aid for those in need.

"It is my priority to ensure that all Johoreans have food on their tables, shelter, access to quality education, as well as access to basic facilities and good health.

"I order that no head of household in Johor be in extreme poverty after 2025. In the next 19 months, please find and identify those belonging to this category in your state legislative area.

"Give them all necessary assistance through government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or from the private sector to help them," he decreed, after opening the state assembly sitting in Bangunan Sultan Ismail here, today.

Tunku Mahkota Ismail ordered all 56 state assemblymen from the government and the opposition to continue serving the people especially during the current global economic uncertainty.

"I fully understand the worry of the people of Johor, the uncertain global economic situation, especially issues of the rising cost of living, difficulty in finding jobs and price instability.

"I want to remind all of you (assemblymen), this is your biggest responsibility as an assemblyman in Johor. Please serve the people and never neglect this responsibility," he added.

The Regent of Johor also decreed that the state government must continue implementing projects to help the people.

"This includes social assistance programmes, adequate infrastructure development and inclusive education initiatives covering all levels of society."
