Competency of teachers to be enhanced in AI-based education

KANGAR: The learning of artificial intelligence (AI) will be enhanced among students as the Education Ministry places strong emphasis on the teachers' training and competency in teaching the subject.

To strengthen the knowledge of AI in students nationwide, rural schools would also be included and integrated into the digital community.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that students needed continuous guidance in AI due to their high potential based on the "input" and innovations they generate.

"Therefore, in our aspirations, teachers must be competent, and we are focusing on competency and training for educators to guide students in AI.

"Besides empowering AI in schools, we have also enhanced the Teacher Activity Centers and Digital Education Learning Initiative (DELIMa), which should be fully utilised by both students and teachers.

"So, the DELIMa platform should become the primary medium for boosting their digital skills and innovation," she said after a work visit to SMA Alawiyah here today.

The Education Ministry recently announced that AI-learning would be implemented in primary schools as early as 2027.

In a parliamentary written reply on March 21, Fadhlina said the ministry was committed to producing a skilled workforce equipped with AI knowledge and skills, enabling the country to remain competitive in the global economy of the digital era.

However, the step had garnered various reactions and somewhat sceptical perceptions among educators, parents and the community regarding the extent and manner of AI curriculum implementation for students.
