MACC sees 'no issue' in the award of contract to firm linked to Hannah Yeoh's husband

KUALA LUMPUR:  The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said there was no issue in the award of a contract to Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd - a firm linked to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh's husband.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this is because the Selangor Mobility initiative contract was not awarded to the company by Hannah's ministry but the Selangor government.

"According to the law, it is not an offence if a person receives a contract or any type of benefit from an agency or entity not related to them.

"In the case of Hannah Yeoh's husband, based on what I read from media reports, he received a contract from the Selangor state government while she is the Youth and Sports Minister.

"There is no relationship between the ministry and the Selangor state government. The project that was awarded is a project from another entity.

"I don't see any wrongdoing with the awarding of the contract," he told reporters after attending a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, here, today.

It was previously reported that the Selangor government had defended the appointment of Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd for its Selangor Mobility initiative.

State Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said Asia Mobility was one of two companies selected for the demand responsive transit (DRT) pilot project, apart from Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd.

In a statement today, Ng said both companies selected for the project had been approved by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

His statement came following allegations of preferential treatment in the project's tender process, after it was revealed that Yeoh's husband Ramachandran Muniandy, was the chief executive officer for Asia Mobilities.

The matter was highlighted by X user @AduanRakyat, and along with other users who questioned if an open tender process was conducted in appointing companies for this project.
