#NSTviral: Man 'hypnotises' senior citizen before stealing motorcycle?

KUALA LUMPUR: A man took his chances to approach a senior citizen near an alley beside a clinic before stealing his motorcycle near Banting, Selangor recently.

A two minute and 14 second viral video posted on X by @nanmanjoi8715 showed closed circuit television footage of the senior citizen getting on his motorcycle.

He was preparing to leave the area when he was approached by an unknown man who allegedly talked, convinced about something before taking away the older man's helmet and riding off with motorcycle.

The senior citizen was seen standing helplessly as his Honda Wave Alpha motorcycle was taken away by the man.

@nanmanjoi8715 posted the video with a caption suggesting that the victim might have been "hypnotised" by the culprit based on information the social media user heard from the victim's child.

The video has garnered over 40,000 views on X.

Netizens were shocked by the incident and suggested that the senior citizen might have given away his motorcycle out of pity.

X user @panic_ride said it did not seem like the senior citizen was hypnotised.

"It looks more like the man may have been sympathetic towards (the other man's) due to his words and he ended up being deceived," he said.

Another user @koffekanxer said it was bad for someone to take advantage of an old man.

"He was gamed (cheated). The uncle is already old," he said, suggesting the senior citizen might have been unable to stop the man when the incident unfolded.

Police have apprehended the suspect after the 65-year-old victim lodged a police report.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor said the motorcycle was also recovered.

"The man reportedly requested for (the senior citizen's) motorcycle to deliver goods around the Banting area.

"Acting on the complaint, a man was arrested and the motorcycle was confiscated with the help of the Klang Utara district police's patrol car unit.

"The suspect has been remanded for four days to complete the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code (for motor vehicle theft," said Ridhwan in a statement last night (Sept 3).
