Immediately after Arif Aiman Hanapi successfully converted a penalty to put Malaysia ahead 2-1 against South Korea, a cameraman captured the fan's enraptured expression for posterity, with tears flowing freely down his face.

The spectacle was not only witnessed by the country's '12th player' in Qatar but resonated with millions of fans back home, marking the end of Group E with a thrilling 3-3 draw.

However, the story behind the tears in Doha, stirring the emotions of national football fans, is even more remarkable as the fan, identified as Derrick Gan, made a significant sacrifice to witness Malaysia's journey in the 2023 Asian Cup.

According to a Facebook post gaining widespread attention, Derrick decided to sell his motorcycle for RM4,500 to raise funds for his trip to Qatar.

"Fundraising for Qatar! Malaysia Road to Asia! Letting go of my bike for the love of the nation... 1st major tournament in Malaysia's history! Anyone willing to help? Pape roger," wrote Derrick in a Facebook post dated December 28.

Until today, the post has garnered significant reaction, with internet users expressing admiration for Derrick's dedication and sacrifice for the national squad.
