#NSTviral: Sarawak fireman breaks down in tears at funeral of K9 partner

KUALA LUMPUR: Losing a loyal comrade in the line of duty is akin to losing half of one's life, an experience that is undeniably heart-wrenching.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department shared an emotionally-charged post on their Facebook page, revealing how their fellow firefighter broke down in tears at the funeral of his beloved K9 partner.

The fireman, Steven Anak Ambu, 47, bade farewell to Cliff, his K9 partner since 2018 in a ceremony at the Serian Fire and Rescue Station, Sarawak, on Jan 4.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Datu Khiruddin Drahman@Hussaini, attended the event and offer a comforting presence to Steven..

"Your service to the country has been immeasurable. Thank you, Mr. Steven. Thank you, Cliff," the post read.

In the heartrending images, Steven was pictured kneeling beside his K9 companion's resting place, wiping away tears.

Yesterday, the media reported how Cliff, an English Springer Spaniel who had been involved in countless operations to locate missing individuals, succumbed to bladder cancer on Dec 25.

Khiruddin had told reporters yesterday that Cliff had played an indispensable role in various operations, tirelessly searching for missing individuals in dense forests and bravely locating drowning victims in rivers across Sarawak.

"The contributions of this noble dog have been beyond measure, significantly contributing to the success of our operations. It is only fitting that we honour him for his selfless service," said Khiruddin.

The social media post drew a flood of comments, with many extending their sympathies to Steven.

"Rest in Peace Cliff & thanks for ur service. Stay strong Sir Steven," wrote @Mery Ng Ted.

"Your services are remembered, little hero," said @Jerry Demian.
