#NSTviral: Video of foreigner guiding parents through banana leaf meal experience goes viral [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner with a strong liking for banana leaf food recorded her parents' first experience with it, insisting they use their hands to eat.

At the start of the video, the young woman was heard telling her parents that it's "illegal" to eat banana leaf dishes with a fork and knife. They didn't believe her, nor did they protest.

She then asked them if they were hungry before proceeding to call out each dish served on the leaf by its name.

Additionally, she introduced them to the Indian soup, Rasam, likening it to regular soup. Surprisingly, the young woman also spoke good Malay, conversed with the restaurant server in Malay when he asked her for her choice of gravy.

She instructed her parents to be a little more adventurous in grabbing the food, referring to the way her mom took rice from the leaf before giving them a "live tutorial" on how to eat with their hands.

Demonstrating further, she smashed the "papadom" right in the centre of the food, showing her mother how it's done.

She also asked the first-timers about their favourite part of the banana leaf meal.

While the mother complimented the food, the father found it quite spicy for his taste buds.

The video, uploaded on the AgaEatsKL TikTok account, has been widely shared and liked over 40,000 times.

Some of the viewers also shared their comments on the post, among which were @navalankaruppiah:" it's good to try like this once. thanks for using Malay too."

@oreomilojo:"Well done...correct way of folding the leaf after your meal..enjoy our food."
