KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a man gifting his parents with duit raya has tugged at the heartstrings of many online.
The video uploaded by @Nntasha on her Tik Tok page has received more than 400,000 views, showing a son surprising his elderly parents with an unexpected amount of duit raya.
The video showed the parents seated on the sofa, while the son, in a matching checkered baju Melayu top as his father, kneeled to seek their forgiveness and handed out two foldable packets.
The man asked for his father's blessing first and then moved towards his mother on his left to do the same.
His father who had then opened the packet was in tears. He had his hands over his face, visibly overwhelmed.
His mother too appeared to be in shock and was moved by his gesture.
The actual amount given was not made known in the video.
The touching video which was posted on the first night of Hari Raya has been shared over 5,000 times and received more than 6,000 comments.
Many viewers resonated with the video as some shared how they were doing better now to give back to their parents, while others wished they could also do the same for their elders.
One of the comments read that not everyone has money and when they are given such a treat, it might have overwhelmed the couple.
Another user said those who didn't have a difficult childhood or upbringing will not be able to understand the meaning of it all.
"You won't be able to relate to it if you grew up rich. Only those, who've experienced poverty would know how much the duit raya meant for his parents.
Another user said she was unable to control her tears watching it.
"I wish my parents were still around, now that I'm doing much better and can afford more things to pamper them," she wrote.
