Pas says don't speculate on storm-beaten bazaar incident

ALOR SETAR: Do not speculate the incident that damaged the Haraki Expo bazaar and injured at least 18 people during the Pas’ 63rd Muktamar last night.

Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the storm which ravaged the bazaar was beyond human control and a test from God.

“No need to speculate. We should pray for the recovery of those who were injured,” he told newsmen after paying a visit to one of the victims at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here today.

Ibrahim was accompanied by deputy Pas spiritual leader Datuk Ahmad Yaakob and Kedah Pas commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi.

He said Pas sympathises with the victims and will help them accordingly.

He said until this afternoon, only one victim, Zainaton Man, 45, from Jitra, was still warded at the hospital, while another 12 has been allowed to return home.

He added six victims received treatment at the complex.

Ibrahim said clearing up works at the site would be completed later today and the traders will be able to resume their businesses tomorrow.

Zainaton, when met, said she was trapped under one the canopies when the incident happened at 7.25pm.

“I was walking with my husband and four children visiting the stalls and exhibition booths.

“When the storm hit, my husband and children ran to safety but I was trapped under collapsed canopies,” she said.

Zainaton said she suffered injuries to her right leg due to the incident.
