Selangor-leg of Umno 71st anniversary flag run kicks off

SHAH ALAM: Some 300 participants took part in the Selangor-leg of Umno 71st anniversary flag run today, which kicked off from the Selangor Umno Building here.

The participants comprised members from the Kapar, Kota Raja, Shah Alam and Subang Umno divisions.

Selangor Umno liaison committee chief Tan Sri Noh Omar who flagged off the participants said the runners were mostly members of the party’s youth movements.

“I am glad to see the strong display of unity among Umno members and hope that it would continue until the general election,” he said.

He said the runners will carry the Sang Saka Bangsa flags to Kuala Lumpur before handing them over to the Federal Territories Umno representatives.

Meanwhile, the event also saw former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar and former National Unity and Social Development Minister Tan Sri Zaleha Ismail being awarded the Anugerah Tokoh Umno Terbilang Selangor for their contributions.

Zaleha in her acceptance speech reminded the party members to stand firmly behind its president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

She said if Umno members wished to remain strong in order for Barisan Nasional to win in the 14th General Election, they must stay united and give their full support for Najib.

“Umno members are the backbone of the party and it is vital to support the top leadership,” she said.
