Selangor Pas: Azmin did not ask Pas excos to resign

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Pas has denied a news report that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had asked Pas state executive councillors to resign following the Islamist party's Syura Council decision to sever ties with PKR.

Its deputy commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said the resignation of Selangor Pas exco members was not even discussed during a meeting between Azmin and the excos — Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, Zaidy Abdul Talib and Yunus — on Friday.

Yunus, who is the exco for Islamic religious affairs, Malay customs and heritage, rural development and traditional village, said he was shocked to read the report, carried by an English publication saying that Azmin had made such request.

"The latest message from Azmin was that he will put Pas exco members in his cabinet. That is why I was so shocked to read the report this morning. I wonder who made this up," Yunus told reporters this morning.

He said the meeting yesterday, which was also participated by newly-minted Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi, saw a discussion about the Syura Council decision, where Azmin asked for opinion on the latest development from each of them.

Yunus said he and his comrades would digest opinions from all parties including decision by Pas Central Committee before deciding to either stay on in the state executive council or else.

"From what I was informed, the Menteri Besar would meet with his party president (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), while at Pas level, we are waiting for the Central Committee for their decision. I believe it is not right for me to comment on something that has not happened," he said.

When asked on Azmin's statement that the PKR deputy president was disappointed by Pas Syura Council's decision (to severe ties with PKR), Yunus said it was Azmin's rights.

Sallehen, who is Sijangkang assemblyman, when contacted also echoed Yunus' statement, saying that he also did not hear about the resignation request coming from Azmin.

"It was not discussed yesterday. I can't be sure of this information as I did not hear it from Azmin himself."

Meanwhile, Azmin's political secretary Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei when asked about the news report also refuted it.

"Our statement is as what was said yesterday. How come the newspaper could publish such report?"
