[Updated] Rafizi: Govt thrives sans Azmin, Hamzah

PUTRAJAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the government was much better without two Opposition figures, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

In his winding up speech at the PKR Annual National Congress, Rafizi openly chided the two Bersatu leaders, saying that the government was much more stable now.

"If there is Azmin or Muhyiddin in any party, no matter how great they are (perceived as a political party), it will be unstable," he said at the Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC) here today.

Apart from that, Rafizi also jokingly urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not to engage in gimmicks similar to those employed by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to spice up the party's congress.

Citing his own observations, he said that the PKR congress was considered flat and uncontroversial when the party was still in opposition.

"I know it's hard to talk about developing the country and government policies, because it's easier to take jabs at your political enemies," he added.

Rafizi was referring to Muhyiddin's announcement of not defending his position as Bersatu president in the upcoming party elections.

Yesterday, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim had chided Bersatu president Muhyiddin over the latter's critique of the government's economic policy.

Adam said the government, led by Anwar, had laid out the foundation for the country's economic trajectory that would address the nation's structural issues.

A day after declaring that he would not defend his post, Muhyiddin reversed his stance and said that he would be running for re-election.

During the president's winding-up speech at the party's annual general assembly, Muhyiddin said the next party election next year would be his last time to defend the post.

He shared a text message from his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, who told him that the party still needed him and he should stay for another term.
