Pas has 'turned to the dark side': DAP assemblyman

KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP assemblyman has questioned Pas on whether its decision to remain in the Selangor administration, despite severing ties with PKR, is befitting an Islamic party.

Describing Pas as having "turned to the dark side", Damansara Utama assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin also rebuked Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi's rationale that Pas’ three exco members not resigning from the state government is a preventive measure against "DAP mischief".

"Pas has indeed turned to the dark side now that it has begun to sing the same tune of 'Semua salah DAP' (just like) Umno-Barisan Nasional.

"We are disappointed that after so many years of partnership in the Selangor government, Selangor Pas has conveniently made DAP their punching bag.

"Is this the way a political party that claims to be Islamic (behaves)? Where are the ethics and principles?" Yeo said in a statement today.

She also accused Pas of overlooking the fact that the mandate it received that led to its position in the state government was achieved through the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat pact.

“The excuse of ‘preventing DAP mischief’ cooked up by Sallehen does not hold water at all. DAP doesn’t need Pas to remain in the Selangor government (in order) to do the right thing for the people of Selangor.

"So what is the real reason Pas is clinging on to its positions in the Selangor government? Is it to continue to use the state government’s resources to strengthen its party support in Selangor, and eventually turn its back against us in the upcoming general election?” Yeo said.

She added that it is incumbent upon Pas to stop using others as a scapegoat and adhere to its principles of integrity.

"If Selangor Pas has the slightest honour and still remembers the partnership and friendship we once had, then we call upon them to stop blaming DAP for the decision they made, and to do the most honourable thing of owning up to the decision to cut ties with PKR.

"Pas did not only betray the common policy framework of Pakatan Rakyat, they cut ties with not one, but both of their former partners in the Pakatan Rakyat. So what is the moral justification left for Pas to remain in Selangor government?" she added.
