PAN tells Selangor Pas excos: 'You're still the enemy'

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Pas executive committee members may have obtained the green light to remain in the state government setup, but Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) still view them as ‘the enemy’.

Selangor PAN Youth chief Abbas Salimi Azmi said while they respected Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decree that the three Pas excos remain within the setup, Pas’ ‘friendliness’ towards Barisan Nasional and Umno poses a threat to Pakatan Harapan.

He said Pas had recently become closer to BN and Umno and this is a cause for concern.

“This is because Pas is not with Pakatan Harapan. It has cut ties with DAP and PKR and furthermore, cannot work with PAN and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

"So Pas can do whatever it wants and there could be a possibility of sabotage from them. Moreover, BN has been harbouring hopes of wresting Selangor, and Pas' friendliness with them could mean something.

"There could be possible attacks from Umno and BN directly towards us or they could use Pas to attack Pakatan Harapan from within," Abbas Salimi told a press conference today.

Selangor PAN Youth's concerns over the matter has led them to call for a Selangor Pakatan Harapan secretariat to be set up as soon as possible.

A letter informing of the decision for the secretariat to be created, which was reached in a Selangor PAN Youth political bureau meeting earlier this month, would be sent to the respective leaders of the Selangor Pakatan Harapan component parties.

The letters would be sent to Selangor PKR chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Selangor PPBM chief Datuk Rashid Asari, Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua, and Selangor PAN chief Izham Hashim.

"The secretariat can serve as a platform to resolve any potential problems that could be caused by Pas, aside from being an early preparation measure to face the coming 14th general election," said Abbas Salimi.

He added that the move to set up the secretariat emulated that of several other states such as Penang, Johor and Perak.

As for Selangor, Abbas Salimi said this was in tandem with a statement made by Azmin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, who had recently declared that Selangor is a Pakatan Harapan state.

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had this week issued a decree that the three Pas excos would maintain in the state government until the next general election even though the party's Syura Council had cut ties with PKR, which heads the state government.
