Azmin hits out at Wong Chen for complaining audit

KLANG: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali today lambasted PKR lawmaker Wong Chen, who had been complaining against the freezing of the Kelana Jaya constituency funding following an audit.

Azmin, who is PKR deputy president, said he too had to undergo the same auditing process but he had no qualms about it.

"Like what I mentioned yesterday, I am not privy to the details. I don't think I need to repeat this everyday.

"I think the message is loud and clear... It is not the duty of the executive to interfere in the process. If you believe in the process of democracy, transparency and accountability, we should allow the Audit Department to come in and conduct the audit process.

"I, myself had to go under audit, but I have no qualms about it. If an audit finds that all processes had been carried out properly, then there shouldn't be any problem.

"But, if there are something amiss found, the Audit Department would make recommendations. This is the normal process that is practiced by the federal government as well as state governments," he told reporters earlier today.

Azmin, who was met during Klang Municipal Council's Hari Raya Aidilfitri do at Taman Pengkalan Batu, here was responding to reporters' request for comment over the issue.

Wong had earlier today held a press conference, where he claimed that PKR might lose Kelana Jaya seat in the next general election should unresolved issues surrounding the constituency’s financial allocation are not addressed soon.

Wong had on May 23 criticised the PKR-led Selangor state government over what he said was a lack of transparent, fair and proper handling of an audit on the spending of the annual RM250,000 budget allocation to his office.

The audit had led to Wong's community spending frozen by the state government last month, after it found that Wong's office was not "spending enough" for small projects or programmes under the annual MP allocation.
