Stop being defensive; carry out CEC re-election, Cheras Umno tells DAP

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP should stop being defensive over the Registry of Societies’ (RoS) directive to hold a second re-election for its Central Executive Committee (CEC), and just carry on with it.

Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee said DAP should just do it, adding that Umno has nothing to do with RoS's decisions, as claimed by many DAP members.

"Umno was ordered to do the same in the 1980s and we did it, we (restructured) everything from the bottom to the top.

"Now that it is being thrown in their faces, (DAP) make accusations and get very defensive.

"Umno is not involved in everything," he said today after opening the Cheras Umno wing’s divisional delegates' meeting.

Syed Ali said even DAP members themselves want the re-election.

"But maybe (DAP advisor) Lim Kit Siang is afraid that there would be changes in the Central Executive Committee, that is why he is against it," he added.

In his blog, Lim had described RoS's decision as "most ridiculous."

"DAP should take Umno as an example. If we did it, why couldn't they?" Syed Ali said.

The RoS will issue instructions to DAP to hold a new re-election of its CEC to select 20 eligible members soon.
