DAP's Gobind Singh told to explain claim of Barisan Nasional "sabotage"

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has been urged to explain his claim that the Barisan Nasional-led government is sabotaging his party's preparations for the 14th general election (GE14).

Barisan Nasional Strategic Communications (BNSC) deputy director Datuk Eric See-To pointed out that DAP had voluntarily conducted its Central Executive Committee (CEC) poll in 2012, merely five months before the last GE13.

Thus, he said, the issue of sabotage over the Registrar of Society’s (RoS) directive should not arise as DAP now has more time – at least nine months – to prepare for both its CEC election and GE14.

"If DAP voluntarily held their CEC elections two-and-a-half months before the GE12’s fifth anniversary in 2013, then how is it sabotage when you still have nine months before GE13’s fifth anniversary?

"Perhaps YB Gobind Singh can explain how this is considered ‘sabotaging’ your general election preparations now?" he asked in a statement today.

In 2013, the RoS had ordered a re-election of DAP’s CEC after it found irregularities and manipulation of votes by the party in its initial election in December 2012.

After the re-election, there were claims by some party members that they were denied the right to attend the party congress as delegates.

In a statement last Friday, RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah instructed DAP to hold a re-election of the party’s CEC, saying that it is necessary as the election of CEC members and key positions via a re-election on Sept 29, 2013 was deemed unlawful.
