Guan Eng on DAP CEC re-election: We're keeping our options open

GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has dismissed claims that the party will not hold another re-election for its central executive committee (CEC).

"I did not say 'no'. We are keeping our options open," he told a press conference at his office here today.

Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister, however declined to elaborate on the options the party has regarding the instructions by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

"We will decide once we meet the RoS," he said.

Lim also claimed that RoS has refused to meet with DAP to discuss the matter.

"We are within the 14 days response deadline," he said.

Lim said DAP has already written a letter but it has yet to be delivered to the RoS.

He said RoS has not given DAP an appointment date or returned their calls.

"What is RoS afraid of? This is to test the RoS if they are neutral or just another BN political tool," he said.

When asked if DAP is muling challenging RoS in court, Lim said that is one of the options.

Yesterday, it was reported that DAP had requested to meet the RoS to discuss the latter's directive for the party to hold a CEC re-election.

This came after the RoS found that the party's CEC re-election in 2013 was not held in accordance with its requirements and the appointment of the CEC and the main office-bearers were deemed invalid.
