MIC aims to retain nine parliamentary seats, 19 state seats in GE14

MELAKA: MIC is looking to retain candidacy of nine parliamentary and 19 state seats as per the 2013 general election in the coming elections.

The full line-up, said party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, has already been identified, barring two seats which could be decided when their central working committee meets next.

The next elections will be a test of MIC's waning presence, marked by the outcome of the 2013 elections which saw it bag just three seats in parliament and five state seats nationwide.

"We are fully prepared this time and our plans have been more or less finalised early," said Subramaniam.

He was speaking after handing over a contribution of RM500,000 to the Kota Melaka MIC branch towards the construction of the first Indian community hall in the constituency.

The Health Minister also presented awards to high achievers among the Kota Melaka Indian community in last year's UPSR, PT3 and SPM examinations.

Asked on his incumbency in the Segamat parliament seat, Subramaniam declined to confirm whether or not he would be contesting the seat again.

"It will all be announced soon together with our full line-up for the elections," he said.
