The people matter to the government

PUTRAJAYA: The view of the people matters said Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor tonight as the government charts new direction under the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also Umno president, adopted an approach by asking the people what sort of Malaysia they wanted by 2050.

"Unlike the Vision 2020, we are not instructed to go down to the ground (to collect such input).

"The government doesn't know everything and which is why we go to the ground (nowadays) and asked them (the rakyat) what they want for Malaysia by 2050," he said at the simultaneous launching of Putrajaya Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri divisional wings delegates meetings here.

Tengku Adnan, who is also Putrajaya Member of Parliament, also said he had met the youths in the administrative capital to get their input on what sort of Putrajaya they wanted by 2050.

The Federal Territories Minister said the current government had to deal with legacy problems, but the leadership under the prime minister was committed to resolve these issues.

Tengku Adnan also said all 191 divisions had pledged their full support to Najib and Umno when the divisional leaders met the party president in a private function held on Wednesday night.

"They have voiced their support for the sake of the country, its people, Islam and the future."

He added attempts were made to smear the party president because its enemies knew that a strong president would result in a strong party.

The Umno secretary-general also urged all party members especially those in Putrajaya to mingle with the people including those who had left the party.

"Don't sideline them. Ask them what they need. We have to portray that Umno is an inclusive party and not exclusive by only mingling with one own peers."

Tengku Adnan also praised disgruntled Umno members who had their issues, but still remained with the party despite efforts by outsiders trying to get them to leave Umno.

"We are not a perfect government and Umno is not perfect too. But we have leaders in the government and in the party who are willing to change and make amends for the sake of Malaysia," he said.

Tengku Adnan also took a swipe at DAP that refused to follow Registrar of Society (RoS)'s rules and regulations.

He said all parties must abide by the law and no one was exempted including DAP.
