Pakatan lineup a 'back-to-work programme for political pensioners'

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan's (Pakatan) leadership lineup has been described as a 'back-to-work programme for political pensioners'.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, labelling the recently announced lineup as "farcical", said Pakatan was also desperate to make the people believe that its prime minister candidate will be "a nonagenarian".

He was referring to former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who now leads Pakatan as its chairman.

"The latest leadership structure the opposition announced is farcical, sounding a bit like a return-to-work programme for old age political pensioners!

"It is also cynical and deceptive, with three leaders but no clarity on who has executive power among them, and DAP deliberately keeping invisible despite controlling the opposition behind the scene with the vast majority of their parliamentary seats.

"As for their Prime Minister candidate, the opposition is so desperate they are now trying to make the people believe it will be a nonagenarian -- who is not even a member of parliament and whose party has just one seat," Najib said during his keynote address at the launch of Invest Malaysia 2017 programme, here this morning.

In the new Pakatan leadership list, its top three spots were filled by jailed PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its 'Ketua Umum', Dr Mahathir (chairman), and PKR Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (president).

Speaking in front of some 2,000 people including representatives from major investors, Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said it was the current Barisan Nasional administration that offers business certainty and confidence in Malaysia.

"It is this (Barisan Nasional) government that offers that certainty to businesses both in Malaysia and overseas. The opposition offers none at all. They are in chaos.

"Two leading members of one party can't agree if the old opposition alliance still exists in Selangor.

'Yes, it does,' says one. 'Oh no it doesn't!' says the other. It's like a Punch and Judy show!" Najib said.

He was referring to the recent friction over Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's claim that the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat still exists in Selangor. The statement had since received criticism from other opposition leaders.
