(UPDATE) Umno, PPBM Youths face off over Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth members from Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) were involved in a scuffle at Sunway Putra Mall here this afternoon.

It is learnt that the altercation between the two groups started around 2.30pm when PPBM members tried to hand over an "invitation letter" to Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to attend the “Nothing to Hide 2.0” forum scheduled for next month.

Before they could make their way to the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) next door, the group were surprised by Umno Youth members who refused to allow them to leave the premises.

The altercation was even captured on video and had started to make its rounds on social media.

The video showed a man in white shirt, believed to be Umno Youth exco member Armand Azha Abu Hanifah arguing with a man in red shirt, believed a leader of the PPBM group.

At one point, police were forced to intervene and prevented the scuffle from escalating further.

Last week, PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had invited Najib to the forum, to answer for the allegations of wrongdoing in their respective premierships.

Meanwhile, Dang Wangi police said they are investigating both groups for holding an illegal gathering.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sukri Kaman said the case was being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 as both groups had failed to apply for permits for the gathering.

“A group consisting 30 people have gathered at Sunway Putra Mall before marching to Menara Dato’ Onn, in PWTC at 2.30pm.

“However, a scuffle occurred when they arrived at Jalan Putra and Jalan Tun Ismail junction as they were stopped by another group coming from PWTC,” he said in a statement today.

Sukri said police managed to control the situation within 15 minutes and both groups dispersed and left around 3.30pm.
