Dr M claims he is privy to classified 1MDB information

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has purported that he is privy to classified information related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in a blog post.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman said that the information, primarily supplied by former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, includes the auditor-general’s report on the state sovereign fund.

The report had been classified as an official secret by the National Security Council in March 2016.

“There are comments that I know the contents of reports by Bank Negara Malaysia, MACC, and Attorney-General Apandi (Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali). Yes, I do know,” he posted on his blog chedet.cc.

He said that he knew the contents of the BNM report because (former) Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail showed it to Muhyiddin while he was still deputy prime minister.

Muhyiddin was removed from the Cabinet in July while Abdul Gani was replaced by Apandi.

“I know AG Apandi lied, that’s why the report was placed under the Official Secrets Act (OSA),” the former prime minister further claimed.

Dr Mahathir also brought up his previous challenge to Mohamed Apandi to swear on the Quran that various reports by the authorities did not implicate Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in transgressions related to the discovery of RM2.6 billion in the latter’s bank accounts.

Mohamed Apandi had earlier gone on record to say that he did not conceal evidence regarding the funds nor the alleged financial mismanagement of 1MDB.
