Kit Siang unhappy when bombarded with questions on birth place

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang today took on reporters who questioned him about an issue that raised by Pertubuhan Minda Sosial Prihatin (PMSP) president Ramesh Rao on the former's place of birth.

The normally accommodative opposition leader was infuriated when asked by the press to explain the issue.

Instead of answering the question, Lim went on a tirade with journalists who were bombarding him with questions.

"I was a reporter before and if the story is trash, I will investigate first. So investigate before posing the question, otherwise it will reflect on you and your newspaper," he said during a media conference at Dewan Rakyat today.

A reporter then tried to ask him further but was cut off by Lim repeatedly, while other opposition MPs who were present looked uncomfortable with the situation.

Lim further told the reporters to do their own research before asking him such question, adding that he felt sorry for the journalist.

The same reporter then asked Lim why he kept refusing to answer her questions.

"I don't want to answer the question because I think the reporters should go through the stacks. Be prepared to do basic check. Reporters should go through a test. Not only politicians must go through a test, reporters must go through a test too. Ok thank you," Lim added.

Yesterday, Ramesh asked Lim to clarify whether he was born or had arrived in Malaysia, claiming that Lim's information on his Wikipedia page was recently edited.

According to Ramesh, a few weeks ago Lim's Wikipedia page stated that he had arrived in Malaya in 1957 but that information was erased 12 days ago.
