Dr Mahathir's latest view on DAP raises questions: Salleh Keruak

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's recent remark that he had been wrong about DAP only raises more questions, one of them is whether the longest-serving prime minister’s latest opinion can be accepted.

Umno leader, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said: “It is difficult to accept. If Dr Mahathir realised that his perception of DAP had been wrong all this time, why did he not apologise to (DAP advisor) Lim Kit Siang and the party during the launch of Pakatan Harapan in Tampoi on Friday?

“Clearly, Dr Mahathir did not show any regret over his wrong perception of DAP before. Looking at this, can we accept the political views of Dr Mahathir today? For me, of course not,” he said in a blogpost today.

Salleh, who is also the Communications and Multimedia Minister, added that if indeed Dr Mahathir had realised he had made wrong about DAP all this while, he should have just disband the newly-established party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and join the DAP instead.

It was reported that during a talk in Tampoi on Friday, Dr Mahathir said that DAP was a party for all races and praised the party for conducting its meetings in Malay.

Due to that, Dr Mahathir also said that the move showed that DAP was not a chauvinistic party as claimed by some quarters.

Salleh however questioned Dr Mahathir’s on this and asked why he had only realised this now.

“If Dr Mahathir admits that his previous perception of DAP had been wrong, then what is the guarantee that his perception is not wrong this time around?

“Is it only now that Dr Mahathir realises that DAP also has Malay and Indian members?

“If previously, he was unable to accept DAP’s ‘Malaysian Malaysia’ politics, has he now accepted the struggles of DAP?” Salleh added.
