Be transparent on party polls, DAP told

KLANG: A former DAP branch leader today called on the party leadership to be transparent on the issue of fresh polls to elect party’s central executive committee (CEC).

L.P. Selvam, who is former Ehsan DAP branch vice-chairman, the leadership should announce the list of CEC candidates and not delay the party re-election.

"The Registrar of Society (RoS) has ordered for DAP to conduct CEC a fresh election after finding that the result of re-election in 2012 as invalid,” he told a press conference here.

Selvam claimed that he remained a DAP member despite being sacked by the CEC in 2013 as the panel was not recognised by law,

“As delegates, we have the right to ask DAP to adhere to RoS’ instruction, which is to conduct re-election, which means they must follow the National Congress and gives 10 weeks’ notice before holding the fresh polls.

"They must also reveal who the 20 candidates are. How are we going to campaign and vote for them if we are not told who they are.

“The grassroots have the rights to vote in leaders of our choice and remove unscrupulous ones," he said.

Selvam said DAP might miss the opportunity to contest in the next general election if it came before the party polls.

"I believe that the delay of re-election is because certain top leaders in DAP are afraid that they will lose their positions, including (secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng.

“They know that many party members are unhappy with what is happening.

"(DAP adviser) Lim Kit Siang has also been very silent about this."

Selvam, who was dismissed from DAP after contesting in the last general election as an independent candidate, said he and other DAP members gave the party leadership one month to respond.
