FT Umno Youth using Liverpool anthem to spur them on

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Umno Youth is counting on a global anthem to win back four parliamentary seats from the Opposition in the coming 14th General Election.

'You'll Never Walk Alone’, from Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1945 musical Carousel, is a popular song always sung by Liverpool FC supporters before every game.

The lyrics are a homily about overcoming adversity by facing it head-on with unwavering optimism.

Segambut Umno Youth chief Baidzawi Salleh Hamdi said the phrase will galvanise the FT Umno Youth to work hard no matter what situation they face in order to assist the party leadership.

"Party president (Datuk Seri Najib Razak), Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar and Federal Territories Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will not walk alone.

"Umno Youth will assist them no matter in tough times or good times," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Umno Youth general assembly at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) here today.

The general assembly was also participated by Najib, who spent 15 minutes with the delegates.

Baidzawi added that FT Umno Youth wants to wrest the parliamentary constituencies of Lembah Pantai, Bandar Tun Razak, Wangsa Maju and Batu.

He said Umno should contest the Bandar Tun Razak seat due to a majority of Malay voters in the constituency.

Bandar Tun Razak is presently represented by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as an independent MP.

Abdul Khalid, who is partyless following his sacking from PKR in 2014, had recently said he would help Umno as an independent.

In the last general election, Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) won four parliamentary seats in FT, namely Putrajaya, Titiwangsa, Setiawangsa and Labuan.

The now defunct opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat won nine of the 11 parliamentary seats in the capital following the 2013 polls.
