KUALA LUMPUR: No other party or political movement apart from than Umno can ensure survival of the Malays in Malaysia.
Johor Wanita Umno delegate Haliza Abdullah, from Batu Pahat, said Umno had successfully led the Malays, as well as the country, in the past century and is able to successfully continue to do so.
"Let me tell why. Firstly, Umno is the most experienced, influential and strongest Malay party.
"There is no other Malay political power like Umno. Some may try to be like Umno, but they are not Umno.
"Secondly, Umno has proven to be extraordinary. What storm has Umno not yet weathered?
"Yet, Umno remains strong and in fact, appears to be more dynamic and strives to adapt itself to the present environment.
"Thirdly, Umno is moderate and a mediator. We are not an extreme and radical movement, but we are firm and persistent.
"(And) Umno will continue to focus on the future of Malays and the country," she said while debating the policy speech at the Umno General Assembly today.
She also called for Umno not to take to heart all the criticisms thrown by certain quarters.
"Criticisms are indeed part of lifelong lessons.
"Furthermore, if there were no challenges and obstacles, how can Umno improve and continue to shape the future of the Malays in this 21st century?," she said.
