Bersatu to convene special general assembly, plans amendments to party constitution

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will convene the party's special general assembly next month.

The notice on the special general assembly, signed by Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, was shared by the party's information chief Datuk Razali Idris on his Facebook page this morning.

Although the agenda of the general assembly, which will take place at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam near here, remains unknown, Razali alluded that the party is expected to discuss amending the party's constitution to prevent more members and leaders from switching support.

"InsyaAllah (God Willing), this will be the end of the six 'jahanam'.

"May Bersatu return stronger and move forward," wrote Razali in a posting on his Facebook page.

Although Razali did not explicitly name any leaders in his social media posting, it is believed that he was referring to the six members of parliament who have declared their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his unity government.

Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi last month announced his support for Anwar.

He became the sixth MP from the Bersatu to announce their support for the unity government under Anwar's leadership.

Zulkafperi cited ensuring continued advocacy for the welfare and development of his constituents, including the improvement of infrastructure and local needs, as the reason which led him to support Anwar.

Other Bersatu MPs who had announced their support for Anwar are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Earlier this month, Hamzah confirmed that Bersatu will proceed with taking legal action against its MPs who have allegedly betrayed the party by declaring their support for the unity government.

Hamzah also confirmed that the party has appointed legal representation for the matter.
