Umno general assembly enters third and final day

KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes will will be on Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Razak today, as the 71st Umno General Assembly enters its third and final day.

This as he wraps-up and replies to points raised by speakers at the end of three days of debate at the party’s general assembly.

The assembly is likely to be the final gathering of party leaders, before the 14th General Election is held.

The next general election must be held by August 2018.

On Friday the 2,718 delegates from Umno’s 191 divisions nationwide adopted the motion on the president’s policy speech as well as that on economy.

The delegates also adopted motion for the party president’s post and the deputy president’s post, not to be contested in the next party polls.

Umno representatives kicked off today morning’s proceedings with the debate on Education and Religion.

Johor representative Senator Zahari Sarip, kicked-off the day with a speech proposing the motion on Education and religion.

His motion was seconded by Penang representative Mohd Nashrol Hisham Abdullah.

A total of 14 speakers will participate in debating the motion.

The highlight of today’s proceedings however will be the Winding-Up speech by Najib. He will be preceded by winding-up speeches involving chiefs of three Umno wings, government representative and the party vice-presidents.

The last two days has seen speakers debate on the motions involving Presidential policy speech and Economy.
