PPBM nominates Dr M as next PM if opposition wins next election

SHAH ALAM: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) today nominated its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the next prime minister if Pakatan Harapan won the coming general election.

Dr Mahathir's son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir made this announcement in his winding up speech during PPBM's annual general assembly here.

Mukhriz, who is PPBM deputy president, said the party named Dr Mahathir to again lead the country based on his 22 years of experience as prime minister.

"PPBM doesn't want the post for glamour but it's because Dr Mahathir is seen as the most capable person to get Malaysia out of its problems.

"Discussions with Pakatan (allies) are still on going... the duties of a prime minister should not be associated with the number of parliamentary seats that will be contested at in the coming election," he said.

In his speech, Mukhriz said PPBM had stopped all discussions with Pas as the efforts were futile.

He said Pas had rejected cooperation with PPBM due to its friendship with DAP and Parti Amanah Negara in the Pakatan pact.

"We are ready to face three-cornered fights because we are confident we can win," he added.
