Mahfuz quitting Pas means he's not a 'pondan Siam', says party VP

KOTA BHARU: Datuk Mahfuz Omar's decision to finally leave Pas has proven that he is a man, and not a 'pondan Siam' (Thai transvestite).

This was the stinging claim delivered by Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, who also congratulated the Pokok Sena member of parliament for finally taking the step to move on.

He was responding to Mahfuz’s announcement that the latter would be leaving Pas, effective 11.59pm tonight.

“Personally, I feel happy with Mahfuz’s announcement because a thorn has been removed from Pas’ side.

“I believe Pas Pokok Sena will be stronger and more focused in defending the seat in the 14th General Election,” said Mohd Amar, who is also Kelantan deputy Menteri Besar.

Mahfuz today announced that he was quitting the party after 34 years.

He said he was leaving the party because he had failed to become the 'medium' between Pas and the opposition coalition.

He said his resignation letter will be submitted to Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan via email this evening.

Besides Mahfuz, his wife Datin Ruswati Jaafar, 58, and daughter Siti Nur Syahidah, 30, also quit.

His son Muhammad Mujaheed, 35, left the party a year ago.
