Pas V-P: Dr M the real traitor

KOTA BARU: Pas today hit back at former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad by labelling him as the traitor to the opposition’s political struggles.

Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he believed that Dr Mahathir had a hidden agenda to destroy the opposition.

"His presence in the opposition is more to cause trouble. We can see what had happened in PKR and other parties in the opposition.

"He (Dr Mahathir) is not really helping the opposition in facing Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election," he told reporters at his office.

It was reported that Dr Mahathir, who is chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, had launched a scathing attack on Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang by labeling him as a “kafir” (infidel) and “traitor” to Muslims for supposedly working with Umno.

Dr Mahathir had said Hadi had once called Umno a party of infidels but was now working with Umno, hence making him an infidel as well.

Amar, who is also Kelantan deputy menteri besar, said it was wrong for Dr Mahathir to make such a claim as it had been Pas' stand that its political enemy was Umno.

"Those who believe that Pas is supporting BN is wrong because the majority of seats that Pas plans to contest in the coming election is held by BN.

"We have our traditional seats (to contest) and those who plan to defeat BN should not disturb Pas," he said.

Amar said Dr Mahathir’s remarks that Hadi was a kafir and a traitor were “nonsensical” and could not be accepted by Pas members.
