PBS: It's Mahathirism as Pakatan names Dr M as next PM

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan should give opportunity to those most qualified to be candidates for prime minister and deputy prime minister, said Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

Describing the move by Pakatan today to name Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister as "Mahathirism", PBS secretary-general Datuk Johnny Mositun said politics should not be about preserving family legacy or dynasty.

"In this case, it gives us the impression that this is how the opposition operates.

"It is a pity for (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Yassin). He (went) against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak because he believed with Dr Mahathir’s backing he (Muhyiddin) could become next prime minister.

"Talks on who should be Pakatan's prime minister if the opposition won the next general election had been on going for quite some time and his (Muhyiddin) name was never heard," he said when contacted.

Mositun said the opposition had also revised its pledges to the people many times, with the only recurring theme was to set Anwar free from prison.

"Have we all forgotten who put Anwar in jail? Who fired Anwar from the deputy prime minister’s post and all his Umno posts?

"In politics, we should put public interest ahead of us. The opposition has given the people a lot of headaches because it keeps changing (its mind).

"How would you know if this was their final pact and wouldn't split up or form new alliances? Put the rakyat first, not family legacy," said Mositun.

At the Pakatan’s convention today, its secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah announced PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the candidate for deputy prime minister’s post.
