Opposition using Chinese investments issue to turn the people against the government, said Hishammuddin

JOHOR BARU: The opposition would use any issues, including China's investments in Malaysia, to turn the people against the government.

Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein pointed out Malaysia also receives investments from other countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United States.

"However, the opposition continue to raise the issue of Chinese investments in Malaysia. During Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's administration, a lot of investment from the West came in to Malaysia but no one said that we were being colonised by the West.

"As the general election nears, a lot of stories and news will come out. It is up to the people to evaluate them and see whether they are realistic or not," said Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister and Special Functions Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.

He said if China does not invest in Malaysia, they would take their investment to other country.

"We are competing for their investment, especially in the current borderless world," said Hishammuddin.

He was speaking to the media after attending a gathering with the Chinese community in Gelang Patah in conjunction with the Chinese New Year. Also present were Gelang Patah MCA chief Datuk Jason Teoh and Gelang Patah Umno chief Mohammad Khairi A Malik.
