PETRA JAYA: Securing a big win for Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election (GE14) will be the priority for the newly-appointed chiefs of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu's (PBB) Youth and Wanita wings.
Immediately after the conclusion of the party’s 14th Triennial Delegates Conference this Sunday, leaders of the two movements will go straight to work and prepare their respective election machineries for GE14.
Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu, who has been appointed as the new PBB Youth chief, said his immediate task was to ensure a landslide victory for the party and Sarawak BN in the upcoming election.
“Apart from preparing for GE14, we are committed to support the direction charted by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg for Sarawak to embrace digital economy.
“We want to help the state government produce a sufficient pool of human capital to meet the current as well as future demand created by the digitisation of the state’s economy.
“The movement wants to also ensure thatthe education section in the state continues to be empowered,” said Rentap, who is previously the deputy chief for the party’ youth wing.
He replaces Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who had earlier announced his intention to withdraw from the post.
Fadillah, the Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, is expected to be announced as the new PBB senior vice-president tomorrow.
At the same press conference, state Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah was emotional during her first appearance as the new PBB Wanita chief.
She replaced Tan Sri Empiang Jabu, who had stepped down to give way to a new breed of leaders.
“For the past 30 years, Empiang has contributed a lot to the movement until it has emerged as the pulse for the party.
“I will continue her good work in providing services to the people and galvanising support for PBB,” she said.
