Pas not rattled by Azmin's threats

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas is not rattled by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s threats to “shut the door on the party” in the state.

Its leaders instead said that Pas was prepared to face three cornered fights in Selangor.

Its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the party was not bothered by the veiled threats as it was not the one to worry about three cornered fights.

“We have our own strategy and we are confident.

“We have done our surveys and support from the people and the grassroots is there. We will not lose, but maintain the seats we have...we may even do better,” he said in a phone interview.

Takiyuddin was asked to comment on Azmin’s statement that he (Azmin) would not be cooperating with Pas in GE14 and warned that this would lead to three cornered fights for seats.

Azmin had also dressed down Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang while stressing that the latter did not understand the politics of the west coast or Selangor in specific, even though Pas Selangor knew that the party had to draw the support of non-Muslims and non-Malays to survive.

However, Pas ulama chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed retorted that if Pas did not know politics it would not be one of the political parties in Malaysia that preceded both DAP and PKR.

“We expected the split but we are not overly concerned about it.

“We have also done it before and now we are back to square one,” he said, adding Pas had strong grassroots support and also its own base of non-Muslims to help.

“Our recent surveys and engagement with the Chinese and Indian communities in Selangor also indicate that we can maintain and win even more seats there,” he said,

Meanwhile in Shah Alam, Pas deputy commissioner Dr Ahmad Yunus denied that Pas Selangor did not see eye to eye with their president as claimed by Azmin.
