Strategy in place for MCA to retain seats and increase its numbers

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA has in place strategies to defend its current Parliamentary and state seats as well as increase the numbers in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The Barisan Nasional component party’s deputy president, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the strategies includes increasing the number of votes in areas considered as hot seats which will be contested by senior MCA leaders.

He said the MCA is unlike opposition parties whose presence in a constituency is akin to to a ‘Bidan Terjun’.

“The strategies have been in place for years and not just today. We had done what needs to be done and this was especially tasked to be undertaken by the incumbents.

“As an example, Paloh state assemblyman ( Datuk Hoo Seong Chang) won by a slim majority but nevertheless had carried his responsbilities very well.

“I am confident that this will be felt by the people,” he said adding that he is also confident with leadership of Datuk Seri Hishammmuddin Hussein who is Sembrong Member of Parliament under which the Paloh state seat falls.

Wee was speaking to reporters at the Chinese New Year Open House organised by the MCA, here today.

The Open House held at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and People's Progressive Party (MyPPP) president Tan Sri M. Kayveas.

Commenting on the MCA president’s Bentong Parliamentary seat which is deemed to be a hot seat, Wee said what Liow had done quite a lot in the Pahang parliamentary seat in the last five years, could be seen and felt.

“Let the people evaluate themselves, and for those do not live in Bentong, take the opportunity in the festive period now to return to Bentong and see what the MCA president had achived in the area,” he said.

Wee hopes that MCA will receive undivded support from the people and this is translated into votes

in the upcoming gereal election.

In the 13th General Election, MC won seven Parliamentary seats and 11 state assembly seats.
