Mas Ermieyati: BN is ready for any challengers in Masjid Tanah

MELAKA: A grueling three-cornered fight is on the cards for the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency in the upcoming 14th General Election.

Speculation is rife that Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) are keen on contesting the seat, which is currently held by Umno’s Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

However, Mas Ermieyati, who is also deputy tourism and culture minister, said she is undaunted by the possibility of defending her seat against the two parties from Pakatan Harapan.

She also expressed confidence in retaining the seat for Barisan Nasional.

“I have visited 18 polling districts in the constituency and I am satisfied with the efforts undertaken so far,” she said, adding that the BN machinery would continue working hard to strengthen the people’s confidence in the ruling coalition.

She made it clear that BN diligently and regularly served the people of Masjid Tanah, and not just during the election season.

“We (BN) welcome any parties who wish to contest in Masjid Tanah. I see this as healthy politics and BN has worked long and hard to fulfil our mandate here.”

Mas Ermieyati said this after launching the ‘Pengisytiharan Tarikh Kemerdekaan: Perjuangan dan Air Mata’ event at Dewan Perbadanan Muzium Melaka here today.

Present were National Archives director Datuk Azemi Abdul Aziz and Malacca Museums Corporation (Perzim) general manager Datuk Khamis Abas.

Mas Ermieyati, who is also Umno Puteri chief, said her party would continue serving the constituents here “no matter what happens” in the polls.

“We will not budge from our commitment in ensuring victory for BN in Masjid Tanah and we will leave it to the top leadership to decide who will contest here.”
