ALOR STAR: Penang Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow will have another go and contest in the upcoming general election to lead the charge in wresting the state from DAP.

Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, in announcing this today, also said the party's deputy secretary Dr Thor Teong Gee will be a new face to be fielded by the party in Penang for the 14th General Election (GE14).

"I wish to announce that the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) has decided that Teng, who is also Penang BN chairman will be contesting in Penang for the GE14 and so will Thor who will making his debut .

"In Kedah, we are nominating Gerakan deputy president Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai, who is also the state Gerakan chairman as the candidate for Derga state seat in Pokok Sena Parliament while state committee member Tan Kok Seong is being nominated as our candidate for the Sidam state seat in the Sungai Petani Parliament," he told a press conference after attending a meeting with the Kedah Gerakan leaders in Mergong here today.

He added that Gerakan will be fielding more fresh faces including from its Youth and Wanita wings in GE14 and their names would be announced at a later date.

Mah who is also the Plantation Industry and Commodities Minister acknowledged that Gerakan had taken a huge beating in GE13 after losing all 17 seats contested five year ago.

However, he believed that BN stands a better chance this time based on the services rendered by the party leaders.

"I believe Penangites are fed up with DAP based various controversies in the state over these two terms, including the alleged sale of land by the state government," he said.
