Hishammuddin: Anwar's claims Umno afraid of his cooperation with Mahathir is laughable

KLUANG: Umno has never been worried by the fact that PKR de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim now seems to be working together with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said Anwar’s claims that the party was afraid of his partnership with Dr Mahathir was not only untrue, but hilariously so.

He said the Mahathir-Anwar combination had already once been proven to be a failure, when they were still in Umno.

“What is there for us to be afraid of when, at the time they were in Umno, when they were president and deputy president, prime minister and deputy prime minister, they could not get along? So I don’t see why Umno should be afraid or nervous about that combination.

“What’s more is that this combination of PKR, DAP, PPBM and Parti Amanah Negara has never been tested... so why should we be afraid?”

Hishammuddin was speaking to reporters after a meet-the-people session with Felcra settlers in Johor at Felcra Batu 3 ½ Paloh.

Also present was his wife, Datin Seri Tengku Marsilla Tengku Abdullah and Felcra chief executive officer Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope.

On Thursday, Anwar said in a statement issued by his lawyers that he was surprised as to why Umno seemed to be afraid of his cooperation with Dr Mahathir. In fact, Anwar had claimed Umno leaders felt that the two of them working together was something odd since they had been enemies for so long.
