Difficult for PAS to form Penang govt, says PKR

PERMATANG PAUH: PAS cannot form the state government in Penang even if it wins all contested seats, said PKR.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said PAS was only contesting 18 state seats in Penang for the coming 14th General Election (14th GE).

Saifuddin, who is tipped to contest both Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat in Kedah and the Pantai Jerejak state seat in Penang, pointed out that the Penang legislative assembly has 40 seats.

“Even if PAS win all the seats they can't form the state government.

“You need 21 seats at least,” he said during the launch of the PKR Permatang Pauh election campaign centre this evening.

He said PAS had always criticised DAP as enemy of Islam and yet they only face off against DAP in Sg Pinang.

Saifuddin chided PAS for not even taking on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Saifuddin, who is earmarked for the DCM I post, urged the people not to waste their vote by voting for PAS.

However, in contrast, Penang PAS announced on the same night that candidates from Dewan Himpunan Penyokong PAS (DHPP) and component parties from Gagasan Sejahtera will contest in the 14th General Election.

Its commissioner Fauzi Mohd Yusof said they would be contesting in two parliamentary and six state seats.

Altogether, the Islamist party will be contesting in eight parliamentary and 24 state seats.

Fauzi said Penang Pas assistant secretary Jamil Abdul Rahman would be fielded in the Machang Bubuk state seat while representative from Penang DHPP Pulau Pinang, B. Jay Kumar in the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency.
